OAFP Congress
What is the OAFP All Member Congress and What Does it Do?
The Congress is the legislative body of the Academy. Actions of the OAFP Officers and the Board of Directors are subject to approval, amendment or direction by the Congress.
Any Active or Life member in good standing of the OAFP may be a member of the Congress.
To meet a quorum, there must be in attendance a number equal to 5% or more of the active members of the OAFP.
The OAFP Congress meets during the Annual Scientific Assembly which is always in May (usually the first or second weekend in May). The meetings have traditionally been in the morning, before the general sessions of the Scientific Assembly. The Congress meets two times, an opening session and a closing session. Members of the Congress receive a Handbook which includes reports from the OAFP President, Treasurer, Foundation, Commissions, Task Forces and Committees. It will also have all the resolutions to be discussed during the Congress.
Resolution Writing 101
The best way to present your ideas to the OAFP is to submit a Resolution to the All Member Congress. Whether or not you will be attending the Congress during the Annual Scientific Assembly, you can offer a resolution to be discussed by the members.
How many times have you thought of something the OAFP should or should not be doing, but didn't know whom to tell? How many times have you thought of a great idea, but didn't want to be the one to spearhead the whole project?
The Congress will discuss your idea and vote on it. If your resolution passes, the Board of Directors takes responsibility for taking action.
We have put together a template for writing a resolution. If you would prefer, the staff at the OAFP office will also help you to write it in the correct format.
