Programs

Laurel G. Case Award for Rural Experience

For the past 16 years, the OAFP Foundation has provided scholarships to high school and college age students that have honored the name of the founding father of Oregon family medicine, Dr. Laurel G. Case.

In 2004, the Foundation Board of Trustees redesigned the scholarship to better emphasize the importance of rural family physicians in Oregon. The Laurel G. Case Award for Rural Experiences now provides a one-time award to OHSU medical students who have completed their first year of medical school and have shown an interest and understanding of family medicine.

Applicants spend one or two weeks living and working with a rural family physician and then submit an essay about what they have learned from this experience.
