OAFP Foundation
The OAFP Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the OAFP, is entering into its’ 13th year since incorporation in October, 1995. The Foundation was established to advance the charitable, educational, literary, and scientific missions of the Academy.

Programs
Laurel G. Case Scholarship/CARE
The Laurel G. Case Scholarship was established in 1995 to award college scholarships to outstanding Oregon high school students interested in a career in medicine.
In September, 2004, the Foundation Board of Trustees redesigned the scholarship to better emphasize the importance of rural family physicians in Oregon. The new Case scholarship is now known as the Case Award for Rural Experience (CARE) with a one-time award granted to OHSU medical students who have completed their first year of medical school and have shown an interest and understanding of family medicine.
Applicants would spend two weeks living and working with a rural family physician and then would submit an essay about what they have learned from this experience.

Medical Ethics Lectureship Fund
The OAFP/F has established a fund to provide the Academy with money for a lecturer to speak on medical ethics at the Annual Scientific Assembly.
TarWars
The OAFP/F has established a fund to support the on-going TarWars tobacco education program. The Academy has been involved with this program since 1992. Every year family physicians speak to fifth grade classes in their communities about the hazards of tobacco. This program is part of a national campaign that includes a poster contest and prizes. The posters are judged every year at the Annual Scientific Assembly.
