Volunteer Opportunities
Do you have a volunteer opportunity for us to post ?
E-mail kg@oafp.org with the details.
North by Northeast Community Health Center has been open since August of 2006, caring for uninsured adults in the surrounding inner Northeast and North Portland neighborhoods. We focus on the care of uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension, and provide free prescription medication and lab monitoring as well as medical visits. We rely entirely on volunteers to staff our weekly clinics. Many of our new patients have been looking for help for a long time and walk through our door expecting to find more obstacles to getting what they need. Seeing people leave with relief and a smile on their face makes it all worthwhile. While none of us alone can fix the problems with our health care system, we can make a real difference in people’s lives. Please visit our website to learn more about North by Northeast, and consider joining our wonderful group of volunteers. A three-hour commitment once each month is all we ask!

The Wallace Medical Concern. For 25 years the Wallace Medical Concern has provided no cost health care for our uninsured neighbors in Portland, Gresham and the metro area. Wallace Medical Concern provides 3 basis services: 1) Direct patient care that includes acute care and limited specialty care in evening and periodic all-day clinics; 2) Coordination of patient referrals to facilitate access to primary care homes and follow-up specialty care; and 3) Facilitation and support for on-site training for medical students and residents to help foster a culture of commitment to community service and provide a platform for civic engagement.
As a volunteer-based health clinic, The Wallace Medical Concern literally could not open our clinic doors without our healthcare professionals, and the medical students and residents who volunteer at our clinic. We invite you to explore ways to use your talents to help people in need. Our Gresham Clinic is open to patients Monday and Wednesday evenings, and we ask our providers to arrive at 7 pm. In addition Wallace has a Downtown Portland Clinic on Thursday evenings, and we ask our providers to arrive at 7 pm. Three hours a month is all we need from you to make a significant difference in a patient’s life. This year we will provide over 3,600 patient visits.
Our founder Dr. James Reuler once said “Few of us will ever have the opportunity to cure anyone, but, everyday, we have the opportunity to help…”
